Hillfield Care Centre in Newcastle Upon Tyne (part of the southern Cross Healthcare group) decided to upgrade residents’ room facilities by adding en-suite facilities to existing bedrooms. Building and Plumbing contractors ( M & R Developments ) of Spennymoor Co.Durham were awarded the contract and recognised that there were drainage problems to overcome as the existing Bison beam floor construction would not easily permit new 4" soil pipes to be passed through them. They turned to Saniflo for help to pump waste and water away to remote soil pipes. On site surveys revealed that existing solvent weld waste pipes could be adapted to carry the waste and foul water products down to the ground floor soil pipes which in turn connected to the existing external drainage. A total of 25 Saniflo / Sanitop units were required to power waste and water away from the ensuite facilities. Each Saniflo unit which was boxed in was fitted with a battery operated Sanialarm unit to give advance warning in case of electrical or unit failure. Sanitop pumps waste and water away from WC and washbasin Up to 100 m horizontally, 5 m vertically or a lesser combination of both
